Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a discussion session to
raise awareness about social development and public health, at the Dharmapasha
Upazila Conference Room in Sunamganj on Sunday.
Representatives of the upazila administration, political and
social organisations, journalists, teachers, young people and people from
various professions attended the meeting.
At the event, Dharmapasha Upazila Executive Officer Jony Roy
said sustainable social development and public health are two important
foundations of a developed and prosperous society. These two issues are closely
interconnected.
He said society should not rely solely on government
initiatives; various voluntary and social organisations must also stand by the
people and draw inspiration from Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
Among others, Bashundhara Shuvosangho Dharmapasha upazila branch
adviser Abdul Malek Khan, joint convener of the upazila BNP convening committee
Abdul Haque, Jubo Dal convener Shawkat Ali Bepari, joint convener Abdul Bashar,
Krishak Dal president Faruk Ahmed, senior journalists Gias Uddin Rana and
Enamul Haque Anny, Bashundhara Shuvosangho Dharmapasha upazila branch President
Selim Ahmed, General Secretary Bazlu Mia and Organising Secretary Imam Hossain
also spoke at the meeting.
The speakers highlighted the importance of the initiative,
saying that protecting public health is not limited to ensuring medical
services. Issues such as safe water, nutritious food, a clean environment,
adherence to health and hygiene practices, tree plantation, preventing drug
abuse and various social ills, and raising public awareness are also closely
linked to public health.
They said regular awareness programmes on these issues are
therefore necessary. Positive change in society can be achieved more quickly if
young people are involved in social development activities. Voluntary
organisations can play an important role in fostering mutual cooperation, a
sense of responsibility and humanitarian values among people.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho expressed its commitment to continuing various activities in health, education, the environment, social awareness and humanitarian assistance for the welfare of people in the future.
