Bashundhara Shuvosangho has launched a three-month sewing training programme in Netrokona to help disadvantaged women gain practical skills and achieve financial independence.
The organisation inaugurated the training centre in the Kurpara area of Netrokona municipality on Saturday. Twenty participants, including widows, underprivileged women and female students, enrolled in the programme, which aims to promote women's empowerment and create self-employment opportunities.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho Netrokona unit President Abdur Rahman presided over the inauguration, while Organising Secretary Ashraful Islam Tony conducted the programme. Local dignitaries, social workers, education advocates and members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho attended the event and praised the initiative as an important step towards helping disadvantaged women become self-reliant.
Madina Akter will serve as the lead trainer and provide hands-on sewing lessons over the next three months. Organisers expect the participants to develop practical skills that will enable them to earn a living independently.
One widow attending the programme shared her hopes for the future. She said she had struggled to support her children after losing her husband. She added that if she received a sewing machine after completing the training, she could earn an income, meet her family's expenses and continue her daughter's education. She said the initiative had given her renewed hope for a better life.
Speakers said Bashundhara Shuvosangho has long worked to empower disadvantaged women, encourage new entrepreneurs and support talented students from low-income families. They said the sewing training programme, followed by the distribution of sewing machines, would strengthen women's economic independence and improve their livelihoods.
They also said the organisation would continue to lead welfare initiatives that improve the lives of disadvantaged people and promote sustainable community development.
