A tree plantation and sapling distribution programme has been launched in Monohardi upazila of Narsingdi to help build a greener future and strengthen people's responsibility towards nature.

Organised jointly by Bashundhara Tissue and Bashundhara Shuvosangho, the initiative aimed to promote environmental conservation and raise awareness about tackling the adverse impacts of climate change.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain inaugurated the programme.

Speaking at the event, he said that a tree not only provides shade but also serves as a key foundation for protecting people's lives, the environment, and the future.

In the face of climate change, he urged every citizen to plant at least one tree and take responsibility for its care.

Among those present were Bashundhara Group Adviser and noted novelist Imdadul Haq Milan, Monohardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer MA Muhaimin Al Zihan, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Sajib Mia, Bashundhara Shuvosangho Adviser Mahbubur Rahman Monir, and Monohardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jahangir Badsha.

The organisers said tree plantation is not merely a one-day programme but a continuing commitment to building a liveable planet for future generations.

As part of that commitment as well as the broader nationwide initiative, tree plantation and sapling distribution activities will be carried out at various locations across the upazila, they added.
