Bashundhara Tissue and Bashundhara Shuvosangho launched a tree plantation programme in Shibpur on Saturday to strengthen people's bond with nature and promote a greener and more sustainable Bangladesh.
Narsingdi-3 (Shibpur) lawmaker Manjur Elahi inaugurated the campaign.
Bashundhara Group Adviser and noted novelist Imdadul Haq Milan attended the programme as the special guest.
Shibpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mosammat Farzana Yasmin, Officer-in-Charge of Shibpur Model Police Station Mohammad Kohinur Mia, and Bashundhara Shuvosangho Central Adviser and Chief Adviser of its Shibpur upazila unit Mahbubur Rahman Monir also attended the event.
Addressing the programme, Manjur Elahi said tree plantation remains the most effective way to protect ecological balance and tackle the adverse impacts of climate change.
"The saplings we plant today represent more than trees. They promise a safer environment, cleaner air and a better life for future generations. Initiatives like this by Bashundhara Tissue and Bashundhara Shuvosangho will play an important role in raising environmental awareness across society," he said.
Farzana Yasmin said government initiatives alone cannot protect the environment and called for active participation from individuals, families and social organisations.
She described the programme as a model initiative for the people of Shibpur and urged everyone to nurture the saplings after planting them.
"Planting a tree means creating shelter for life and laying the foundation for a greener future. We all share the responsibility of helping these trees grow," she said.
