Bashundhara Tissue and Bashundhara Shuvosangho have jointly organised a tree plantation and sapling distribution programme in Lalmonirhat sadar upazila with a vision of building a greener future.

As part of an ongoing nationwide initiative to protect nature and the environment, the programme was held on Saturday at Mokra Dhodhgach Government Primary School and the adjacent Eidgah ground in Mahendranagar Union.

Under the initiative, different species of trees were planted at the venues, while saplings of timber, fruit-bearing, medicinal and flowering plants were distributed among students and local residents.

Among others, Bashundhara Shuvosangho Lalmonirhat district unit General Secretary Md Naim Rahman, former union parishad member Khairul Islam, veterinary doctor Dr Ashraful Islam, Hasan Ali and Nurzamal were present.

District unit Publicity Secretary Mahabub Rahman, Sports Secretary Chan Mia, members Amir Hamza, Md Nahid Alam Rabbi, Sumaiya Akter, Rakib Hasan, Tasin Shahriar Riyad, Rebeka Khatun, Dipa Rani and Sadar upazila unit General Secretary Sajib were also present.

Addressing the event, Entajur Rahman said, “Trees are not only a beauty of nature but also a vital support for protecting human life and the environment. Climate change has become a serious threat due to indiscriminate tree cutting and deforestation. To restore environmental balance, afforestation must be prioritised at individual, family and social levels.”

Naim Rahman said Bashundhara Shuvosangho always believes in welfare activities. “Protecting the environment and society is not only the responsibility of the government; it is a collective responsibility of all of us. If everyone plants and takes care of at least one tree, the dream of building a green Bangladesh will become stronger,” he added.
