Bashundhara Shuvosangho celebrated the 127th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam in Gopalganj on Monday.

Marking the day, the district unit Shuvosangho arranged a colourful Nazrul music competition, discussion meeting, and cultural programme with the participation of children and teenagers.

The event was held on the premises of Jalshaghar Music Academy in Raghunathpur union of Sadar upazila.

The competition was divided into two categories — Ka and Kha groups. Nearly 50 contestants from both groups participated and displayed remarkable musical talent. Performances of Nazrul songs made the academy premises lively and vibrant, captivating guests and audiences alike.

Instructors of Jalshaghar Music Academy served as judges for the competition.

A discussion meeting was held following the music competition marking Nazrul’s birth anniversary.

Gopalganj district unit Shuvosangho President Sujan Das, vice-presidents Mohammad Al Imran Suman and Mimi Bala, General Secretary Turjo Rahman, Joint General Secretary Tipu Biswas, and other leaders took part in the discussion.

At the discussion, judge Bishnupada Biswas said that every contestant delivered an extraordinary performance and their singing impressed the judges greatly.

“It was difficult to complete the judging process because the scores of almost all participants were very close. I would encourage everyone to continue practising Nazrul music not just for a day, but throughout their lives,” he said.

Jalshaghar Music Academy Principal and Bangladesh Television artiste Mahanambrata Sarkar Dip said, “Such initiatives to encourage culturally enthusiastic children and teenagers in remote villages are truly commendable. We sincerely thank Bashundhara Shuvosangho for this arrangement.

“Nazrul was a poet of secular consciousness, and we hope today’s children will also grow up inspired by that spirit and contribute positively to society and the country,” he added.

Jalshaghar Music Academy Convener Biplab Biswas said, “Children from our village had never before received the opportunity to participate in such a large cultural event. We sincerely thank Bashundhara Shuvosangho for organising this wonderful programme. We hope more of Shuvosangho’s events will be held at our academy in the future.”

Shuvosangho President Sujan Das said, “Bashundhara Shuvosangho, the humanitarian wing of the country’s leading industrial conglomerate Bashundhara Group, has always remained involved in good initiatives and social welfare activities.

“We organise various programmes to commemorate distinguished national figures. Today’s event truly impressed us. The enthusiastic participation and outstanding performance of the children inspired us. Such initiatives will continue in the future,” he said.

The prize-giving ceremony followed the discussion meeting. A total of 10 contestants from the two groups were declared winners and received crests and certificates.

A cultural programme was held after the prize distribution ceremony.
