Bashundhara Shuvosangho Gazipur district unit launched an awareness campaign to promote proper disposal of sacrificial animal waste, environmental protection and preservation of hides ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
The daylong campaign took place at the traditional Rathkhola cattle market in Gazipur on Saturday. Volunteers distributed leaflets and exchanged views with local people to raise awareness.
Organisers said Eid-ul-Azha generates a huge amount of animal waste in urban and rural areas every year. Improper management often leads to environmental pollution, foul odour and health risks. Lack of awareness also damages a large quantity of raw hides annually, causing economic losses.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho Gazipur district unit President Imran Hossain said sacrificial rituals carry responsibilities related to public health and environmental protection.
“If people do not dispose of animal waste properly and quickly, pollution and disease risks increase,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of preserving hides properly, saying quality preservation could contribute significantly to the country’s economy and industrial sector.
General Secretary Tanvir Ahmed urged people to dispose of waste at designated places immediately after sacrifice and follow local administration guidelines to maintain a clean environment.
He also advised people to use salt properly to preserve hides and maintain their quality.
Organisation member Zahirul Islam said immediate cleaning after sacrifice remains essential to prevent foul odour and germ transmission.
As part of the campaign, volunteers distributed awareness leaflets among cattle traders, buyers, local residents and visitors at the market. The leaflets highlighted proper waste disposal methods, the importance of disinfectants, designated slaughtering areas and hide preservation techniques.
Local traders welcomed the initiative and said such campaigns could help reduce pollution and financial losses caused by improper hide preservation.
Tanvir Ahmed, Tanzina Akter Jerin, Zahirul Islam, Abdullah, Israfil Siam, Rabiul Awal Biplob, Bithi and Bonolota, among other members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Gazipur district unit, attended the programme.
Locals praised the initiative and said awareness campaigns like this could help build a cleaner and healthier environment.
