As part of its humanitarian initiative to empower underprivileged women, Bashundhara Shuvosangho distributed sewing machines among 20 women in Gabtali upazila of Bogura on Saturday.
The distribution programme was held at the
hallroom of Gabtali Women’s College at 11am, where reserved seat lawmaker Suraiya Jerin Rony attended as the chief guest.
Shuvosangho Director Zakaria Zaman presided
over the event. Among others, Gabtali Upazila Social Services Officer Sajedur
Rahman, municipal BNP General Secretary Abdur Rahim Pintu and Organising
Secretary Tarikul Islam spoke as special guests.
The beneficiaries received the sewing
machines after completing a three-month free training course.
Beneficiaries, including Israq Jahan Fiha,
Rina Akter and Jafrin Akter, expressed gratitude after receiving the sewing
machines free of cost.
They also wished good health and long life
for the Chairman, Managing Director and officials of Bashundhara Group, saying
the training had helped them become skilled and that the sewing machines would
enable them to become self-reliant.
They said they would now be able to support
their families and bear the educational expenses of their children.
Speaking at the programme, Zakaria Zaman said
humanitarian activities by Shuvosangho were continuing across the country under
the guidance of the Chairman of Bashundhara Group.
Expressing gratitude to Bashundhara Group, MP
Suraiya Jerin Rony said such initiatives would help make women self-dependent,
especially those from underprivileged backgrounds.
“If such activities continue, the number of
underprivileged women in the country will decline,” she said, adding that
everyone should come forward in humanitarian work like Bashundhara Group.
