Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) has dismissed social media reports claiming that gas supply across the country will remain suspended for four days, describing them as rumours.
However, the state-owned corporation said gas
supply might decline over the next four days due to maintenance work at an LNG
terminal, potentially causing temporary low pressure in some areas.
The information was disclosed in a press
release signed by Petrobangla Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) Tarikul
Islam Khan on Tuesday.
According to the statement, regasification
operations at one of the two LNG terminals in Cox's Bazar’s Maheshkhali have
been suspended for emergency maintenance at Summit LNG. As a result, daily gas
supply could fall to 2,250 million cubic feet from the current 2,570 million
cubic feet over the next four days.
The statement said a group was deliberately
spreading rumours on social media using news-card images from different media
outlets, claiming that gas supply would remain suspended nationwide for four days.
Petrobangla said the misinformation was aimed
at creating panic among the public and urged people not to be misled by such
rumours.
