The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a suspected member of an inter-district theft syndicate and recovered stolen electronic goods worth around Tk13 lakh in connection with a Tk15 lakh theft from a covered van carrying the shipment from Chattogram Port to Dhaka.
The CID recovered 24 cartons of electronic products from the suspect's possession following his arrest in Mirpur on 2 November.
According to a CID press release, 67 cartons of electronic goods went missing after a shipment arrived at the warehouse of Abedin Enterprise in Paltan, Dhaka, on 5 October.
The shipment comprised 1,260 cartons transported from Chattogram Port in three covered vans.
After analysing information gathered through technology, a CID team, assisted by Paltan Police, arrested Md Sujon Hossain, 21, near Misko Super Market on Darus Salam Road in Mirpur.
The suspect and the recovered goods were later handed over to Paltan Police for further legal action.
A case has been filed with Paltan Model Police Station.
The CID said efforts were underway to recover the remaining stolen goods and identify and arrest other members of the alleged theft syndicate.
