Govt moves to form committees in every upazila to resist juvenile gangs
A A

The government has decided to form special law enforcement committees in every upazila across the country to counter the influence and violence of teenage gangs.

The Ministry of Home affairs issued a statement in this regard on Monday, signed by Secretary Faisal Hasan.

The committees will include the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) as president, and officer-in-charge (OC) of the nearby police station as member secretary.

Other members of the committee were not disclosed in the statement, but ministry sources said officials from the local administrative bodies and law enforcement agencies would fill the remaining ranks.

The working agenda of the committees would be to identify youths and teenagers prone to commit crimes, return them to the mainstream society and mitigate their criminal tendencies through consultations and take legal and social penalties against the offenders.

Notably, the BNP government has adopted a non-negotiable stance over youth gangs and pledged to nullify the threats posed by these within months.
