The government has published the admission policy for public
secondary schools, introducing a lottery system for class one and written
admission tests for classes two to nine.
The information was disclosed in a notice which was uploaded
in the website of Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of
Education on Tuesday.
According to the policy, students seeking admission to class one must be selected through a lottery.
Each applicant can choose up to five institutions in order of preference. However, selecting both shifts of a double-shift school will count as two choices. Multiple applications to the same institution will result in the cancellation of all applications.
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) will centrally conduct the digital lottery for class one admission.
The process must be carried out in the presence of admission
committee members to ensure transparency.
Alongside the list of selected students, a waiting list
equal to the number of vacant seats must also be prepared.
If a selected student fails to enrol by the deadline set by
the admission committee, students from the waiting list will be admitted in
sequence.
For classes two to nine, students will be selected for
vacant seats through written admission tests based on merit.
A waiting list equal to the number of vacant seats must also
be prepared for these classes. If selected students fail to enrol within the
stipulated time, candidates from the waiting list will be admitted in order.
Admission test marks and duration
For classes two to five, the admission test will carry 50
marks, with 15 marks for Bangla, 15 for English and 20 for mathematics. The
examination will last one hour.
For classes six to nine, the test will carry 100 marks,
comprising 30 marks for Bangla, 30 for English and 40 for mathematics. The
examination will last two hours.
According to the policy, heads of institutions will publish
admission notices specifying the number of vacant seats in their respective
schools, as decided by the admission committee.
The committee will also ensure wider publicity by publishing
notices in national and local newspapers and on websites.
