A Dhaka court on Sunday showed former Jamalpur-1 lawmaker Md Nur Mohammad arrested in an attempted murder case filed with Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station in connection with the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Jonaid passed the order, said state prosecutor Harun Or Rashid.
Earlier in the day, Sub-Inspector Md Mahfuzur Rahman, also the investigation officer in the case, produced Nur Mohammad before the court and sought to show him arrested in the case.
During the hearing, state lawyers argued in favour of the application, while the defence lawyers opposed it. After hearing both sides, the court passed the order showing him arrested in the case.
According to the case statement, the victim, Jewel, was shot after joining a procession of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Tejgaon Industrial Area on 3 August 2024. After receiving medical treatment, Jewel filed a case with the police station.
According to the police petition, Nur Mohammad had allegedly instigated the incident. The investigation officer said showing the former lawmaker arrested in the case was necessary for the sake of a proper investigation.
