Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Sa Ching Prue has said Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman laid the foundation for integrating ethnic communities across the country into the national mainstream through the ideology of Bangladeshi nationalism.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at an exchange meeting with representatives of plainland ethnic communities and the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Janagosthi Dal at the seminar hall of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Complex on Bailey Road in the capital on Saturday (10 October).
The minister said the government was committed to protecting the languages and cultures of ethnic communities in both the Chittagong Hill Tracts and the plains, expanding access to modern education and improving their living standards.
He said the government, under the inclusive governance approach of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, was working to build a prosperous Bangladesh that embraces diversity as a "Rainbow Nation."
Sa Ching Prue also recalled former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's contributions to the educational, healthcare, socioeconomic and cultural development of communities in the hill tracts and the plains.
