President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday called for preserving the true history of the Liberation War and ensuring due recognition, respect and dignity for genuine freedom fighters.
He also urged all concerned to uphold the
legacy and glory of the Liberation War.
The president made the remarks when a
12-member delegation of the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command
Council, led by its convener and freedom fighter Naim Jahangir, paid a courtesy
call on him at Bangabhaban.
President Mirza Fakhrul said the nation
remembers the sacrifices and contributions of freedom fighters with deep
respect.
“It is the responsibility of the state to preserve their honour and dignity and ensure that a proper list of genuine freedom fighters is prepared and due recognition is given to them,” he said.
He stressed that everyone should remain responsible and cautious in preserving and presenting the history of the Liberation War so that no confusion or ambiguity is created.
The president also stressed the importance of continuing the country's democratic journey by giving the highest priority to national interests.
He also underscored the need to uphold the
country's independence, sovereignty and the historical values of the Liberation
War.
During the meeting, the delegation raised
various demands and welfare-related issues concerning freedom fighters.
They also alleged that fake freedom fighters
were created during the previous “fascist regime” and that the true history,
ideals and spirit of the Liberation War were distorted and politics was
corrupted through a particular narrative.
They also informed the president about their
plan to organise a peaceful rally on their own initiative.
The president heard their views and assured
them that the issues raised concerning the welfare and dignity of freedom
fighters would be duly considered.
Among others, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad
Central Command Council Joint Convener Maj (retd) Syed Munibur Rahman, Member
Secretary Sadek Ahmed Khan, Organisational Member Syed Abul Bashar, Information
and Research Member Sirajul Haque, Finance Member Mansur Ali Sarker, Welfare
and Services Member Anil Baran Roy, Management Member Nurul Islam, Relief and
Rehabilitation Member Jahangir Kabir, Office Member Engineer Zakaria Ahmed,
Dhaka Metropolitan Unit Command Convener Nurul Basar and Member Secretary Mizanur
Rahman Khan (Bir Protik) were present.
The president's military secretary, secretary
and press secretary were also present.
