A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent three accused on three-day remand each in a case filed over an attack and vandalism at New Gini Properties under Cantonment Police Station in the capital.

The accused put on remand are Md Mamun, 32, Md Munna, 29, and Shahriar Mahmud, 60.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ismail Hossain passed the orders, said prosecution division Sub-Inspector Tarekur Rahman.

The court also sent three other accused — Md Aslam, Md Mizanur Rahman and Md Shah Alam Anik — to jail after their remand in the case.

Earlier, the investigating officer, DB Inspector Md Zehad Hossain, produced the accused before the court and sought seven days’ remand for Mamun, Munna and Shahriar.

He also pleaded for the detention of the other three accused and strongly opposed their bail until completion of the investigation. After the hearing, the court passed the orders.

Earlier, investigators had obtained three-day remand approval from the court to interrogate those accused in the case.

According to the petition, the plan for the attack was prepared on the day of the incident at the nearby Blue Moon Restaurant under the leadership of accused Shahriar Mahmud.

Several audio recordings containing instructions regarding the incident were also recovered from Shahriar Mahmud’s seized mobile phone, in which he was allegedly heard giving instructions to others to carry out the incident.

Police also said around 50 rounds of bullets were allegedly fired at the scene. A review of the mobile phones of arrested accused Munna and Mamun reportedly showed them displaying the firearms used in the incident and making various remarks on the day of the incident.

According to the case documents, on 26 September, around 50 people allegedly broke into the New Gini Properties Ltd project area in West Matikata.

They allegedly opened fire and attacked people with machetes, knives and sticks, vandalised a studio and looted it, taking cash, laptops, cameras and other equipment, and damaged several vehicles.
