President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Wednesday that differences of opinion, constructive criticism and peaceful protests will always exist in politics, but these are the beauty of democracy.

In this connection, he said, “Politics of vengeance hinders the development of democracy.”

The president made the remarks when a delegation of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), led by its Vice-Chancellor Prof M Enamullah, paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban this morning, President’s Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam told BSS.

During the meeting, VC Prof Enamullah briefed the president about the overall academic activities of the university.

He informed the president that around 15,000 students are currently studying at the university and about the government's allocation of Tk600 crore for infrastructural development of the university.

He sought the president’s cooperation in resolving various problems, including the appointment of teachers against vacant posts at the university and the accommodation crisis faced by female students.

Mirza Fakhrul assured the delegation of resolving the problems and urged the university to maintain the quality of education for the expansion of higher education in the relatively backward northern region of the country.

The VC formally invited the president to attend the upcoming convocation ceremony. The president accepted the invitation and assured his presence in the programme.

The president’s military secretary, secretary and press secretary, and the university’s Pro-VC, treasurer and registrar were present during the meeting.
