July Martyrs, Fighters will get constitutional protection: Salahuddin

A special provision will be included in the constitution to ensure legal protection for July Uprising participants, including martyrs and injured activists, said Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, president of the parliamentary committee on constitutional amendment, on Tuesday.

The BNP-dominated parliament has already passed a law endorsing indemnity for the July Uprising activists, Salahuddin said at a press briefing held at the National Parliament.

Similarly, a provision on protection from legal action and scrutiny will also be included in the concerned part of the constitution, in line with the demands raised by the injured participants and their families, the home minister added.

The briefing followed a meeting with the martyrs’ family members and people injured in the movement.
