President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for collective efforts to ensure a safe, discrimination-free and caring environment for every child.
“The future of building a prosperous, knowledge-based and
humane nation depends on ensuring children’s healthy growth, joyful childhood,
quality education and opportunities to develop their talents and creativity,”
he said in a message this evening.
The Head of State issued the message on the occasion of
Children’s Rights Day 2026 and the Golden Jubilee of the Bangladesh Shishu
Academy, to be observed tomorrow.
Extending his greetings and best wishes to children and
adolescents in Bangladesh and around the world, he said today’s children are
the future of the country.
The President highlighted various government initiatives for
child protection, social security and overall development, including quality
education, nutrition and healthcare, technical and technology-based training
for school dropouts, and a child-friendly justice system.
He stressed the need to ensure that these services
effectively reach disadvantaged children, children with disabilities and those
from marginalised communities.
Highlighting the importance of sports in children’s physical
and mental development, the President said plans are underway to establish
‘Sports Villages’ in all 64 districts, introduce ‘Sports Cards’ and sports
allowances, and relaunch the ‘Natun Kuri Sports’ programme to identify
grassroots talents.
Mirza Fakhrul said a balanced practice of education, culture and sports would help children grow with knowledge, moral values, humanity and patriotism.
Recalling the Bangladesh Shishu Academy’s 50-year journey,
he said the institution has played an important role in nurturing children’s
talents through music, dance, painting, recitation, literature and other
creative activities.
The President wished success of all programmes marking the
occasions.
He expressed the hope that every child in the world would
enjoy a safe, joyful and enlightened life.
