Prime Minister’s Spokesperson and Adviser Mahdi Amin on Sunday held discussions with US embassy officials on enhancing education cooperation between the two countries, with a particular focus on increasing US full-bright scholarships for Bangladeshi students.

The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s Office in the capital.

A delegation from the US Embassy, led by Chargé d’Affaires Eric Geelan, attended the meeting. Public Diplomacy Officer Scott Hartmann and Sitaram Sirin were also present.

At the meeting, the US side offered over 18 scholarships and English language programs for Bangladeshi students and teachers, the US Embassy in Dhaka said on its official Facebook page.

Furthermore, detailed discussions were held on various aspects of advancing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States in the education sector.

A key focus was on how to increase the number of Fulbright Scholarship opportunities available to Bangladeshi students each year. The two sides also emphasized ensuring more scholarship opportunities for government officials.

They also discussed expanding teacher-training initiatives and student and faculty exchange programs, as well as ways the United States could contribute to promoting language education and skills development in Bangladesh.

The meeting also discussed providing scholarships for students to conduct research aimed at addressing local challenges in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, urbanization, industry, education, infrastructure development, and technology.

In addition, both sides discussed improving the overall quality of the education sector, strengthening institutional ties, and finding ways to more extensively engage Bangladeshi students and alumni studying in the United States in the country’s development activities.
