A court on Sunday ordered the freezing of seven bank accounts of former APS to ex-law minister Anisul Huq and former upazila chairman Md Rashedul Kawser Bhuiyan over allegations of acquiring illegal assets.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir
passed the order following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission
(ACC), said ACC Public Relations Officer Aktarul Islam.
Earlier in the day, ACC Assistant Director Md Mizanur Rahman
filed the application seeking the freezing of the bank accounts.
The application said the ACC was investigating a case filed against Rashedul Kawser over allegations of illegally acquiring and possessing assets worth Tk2.30 crore by abusing his position.
The ACC said suspicious and unusual transactions had been
found in several of his bank accounts during the investigation. The accused was
attempting to transfer or dispose of the movable assets held in the accounts
through his close associates, the commission said.
The anti-graft watchdog body sought the freezing order,
citing the risk of substantial loss to the state if the assets were
transferred, converted or moved elsewhere before completion of the
investigation.
