Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has said the Fulbaria bus terminal in the capital’s Gulistan will be shifted to Chunkutia in Keraniganj within three months to reduce traffic jam in the capital.
He added that police will continue their efforts to arrest
those responsible for arson attack during eviction drive by Dhaka North City
Corporation (DNCC) in Mirpur.
The commissioner made the remarks while speaking to
journalists after visiting Mohakhali bus terminal on Saturday morning.
Leaders of Bus Owners’ Association accompanied the
commissioner, who came to see the newly allocated space for the terminal.
During this time, DMP handed over the new space with the capacity of keeping 80
buses to the owners.
The commissioner said, “The present government is
trying to separate bus depots and bus terminals. Although Mohakhali bus
terminal will remain at its current location, the depot will be moved to
Purbachal. One of the main reasons for traffic congestion in Dhaka city is the Fulbaria
bus terminal in Gulistan. This terminal will be taken to Chunkutia in
Keraniganj within three months.”
Representatives from the owners’ association said
the government is prioritising reduction in traffic congestion at bus terminal
areas.
