The implementation of the Teesta Master Plan will begin from the next fiscal year after completion of the ongoing technical survey, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu said on Thursday.
He said implementation of the plan would bring significant
changes to the lives and livelihoods of around two crore people living on both
banks of the Teesta River.
The minister made the remarks while inaugurating the new
building of Rajarhat Upazila Administration in Kurigram on Thursday.
“Once the technical survey is completed, implementation of
the Teesta Master Plan will begin from the next fiscal year,” Dulu said.
Speaking about the country’s law and order situation, he
said the state machinery had been weakened during the previous 17-year rule,
resulting in irregularities and corruption in various sectors.
“We are working to address these issues,” he said.
“If the people and administration work together, the law and
order situation will improve further,” he said.
On employment opportunities in Kurigram, Dulu said various
projects had been taken up to create jobs for people in the district who had
been deprived of development opportunities.
He said the implementation of these projects would create
employment and help restore public confidence in the government.
Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Annapurna Debnath, District Council Administrator Sohel Hossain Khaikobad, Police Superintendent Khandaker Fazle Rabbi, Kurigram district BNP convener Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, joint convener Hasib-ur Rahman and leaders and officials at the district and upazila levels were present at the programme.
