The
government has decided to keep the existing prices of diesel, kerosene, octane
and petrol unchanged for the month of October.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division announced the decision in a notification issued on Wednesday.
As a result, consumers will continue to pay Tk135 per litre for diesel, Tk165 for octane, Tk160 for petrol and Tk155 for kerosene throughout October.
“With
approval from the competent authority, the existing prices have been kept unchanged
for October 2026,” the notification said.
The rates will remain effective from 1 October, it added.
Earlier,
the government raised the prices of all types of fuel oil by Tk20 per litre on
20 September, citing a rise in international fuel prices and freight charges
amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The
Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said at the time that international
prices of all types of fuel oil and freight charges had increased significantly
since March 2026 due to the conflict in the Middle East and that the trend was
continuing.
Although
international fuel prices had more than doubled, the government had refrained
from increasing domestic prices in the public interest, the ministry said.
As
a result, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) incurred losses of around
Tk22,875.6 crore between March and August 2026, according to the ministry.
The
ministry said the increase in domestic fuel prices was necessary amid rising
international prices to maintain the government’s social safety-net programmes
and prevent fuel smuggling.
