Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan on Monday directed Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) personnel to discharge their duties with the highest professionalism, strict discipline and dedication to safeguard the country's airspace, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He gave the directive while addressing officers, airmen, MODC (Air) personnel and civilian members working in the Dhaka area at a programme marking the 55th founding anniversary of the BAF and Air Force Day.
The programme was held at the C-130 hangar of BAF Base Bashar at Dhaka Cantonment, where the Chief of Air Staff attended as the chief guest, said press release of the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate issued here this evening.
Highlighting the responsibilities of BAF personnel in protecting the country's airspace and national sovereignty, the BAF Chief stressed the need for professionalism, discipline and dedication in discharging their assigned duties.
A special documentary highlighting the 55-year journey and achievements of the BAF was screened at the programme, followed by a reception.
The BAF observes 28 September as Air Force Day every year, commemorating its emergence during the Liberation War of 1971.
During the Liberation War, Bengali members of the Pakistan Air Force defected and joined the war of independence.
Against the backdrop of the need for an independent air force, 'Kilo Flight' was formed at Dimapur in Nagaland, India, on 28 September 1971.
Initially comprising an Otter, a Dakota and an Alouette helicopter, Kilo Flight had 57 members, including Bengali pilots, airmen and civilian pilots.
Led by Air Vice Marshal Sultan Mahmud, Bir Uttam, Kilo Flight conducted more than 50 successful air operations during the Liberation War, contributing significantly to the victory, the release mentioned.
To mark Air Force Day, documentaries on the BAF's history and achievements were screened at BAF bases and units, as well as BANAIR contingents in UN peacekeeping missions.
Special prayers and munajat were also offered at BAF mosques, while receptions were arranged at various messes, the ISPR added.
