The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) withdrew Shah Ali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jahangir Alam on Sunday, two days after hundreds of masked men vandalised and looted a healthcare facility in an area under his jurisdiction in Mirpur.

DMP’s withdrawal order was issued Sunday but the matter came into media attention on Saturday.

Jahangir has been attached to the Central Reserve Office of the Headquarters and Administration Department of DMP, read the DMP order.

DMP Deputy Commissioner Md Shahriar Ali issued the order, saying Jahangir has been withdrawn owing to “administrative reasons.”

On Thursday night, around 200 masked men attacked the Radda MPH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1, demolished four buildings and looted valuables.

After the vandalism, Jahangir Alam told reporters that policemen were present at the spot during the attack -- but he did not comment on why personnel failed to detain a single attacker.

The healthcare facility's deputy director later filed a lawsuit.
