Police have
arrested a teenage driver of a car over suspected involvement in a fatal road
crash in the capital’s Baridhara area, after media reports raised questions
over his exclusion from the relevant case.
The victim
Mehedi Hasan’s elder brother Moktadir Islam filed a case over unnatural death
with the Gulshan Police Station on Tuesday night, hours after the road crash,
but did not name the teenager as an accused.
However, as
media questioned the teenager’s exclusion from the list of accused, police
arrested the 17-year-old from a residence in Gulshan on Wednesday after
reviewing CCTV footages of the incident.
Gulshan
Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jahed Noor confirmed the arrest.
The
teenager studies at “O” level in an English medium school in Gulshan. His father
is a captain of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and the car is registered under his
mother’s name.
In the case
statement, Akash Marak, 44, was identified as the driver of the car and named
as an accused. He has remained missing since the fatal crash that left day
labourer Mehedi Hossain, 24, dead.
