I have only one son, please forgive him: Opratim’s father at janaza

The father of Opratim, the only son of a Comilla University teacher, broke down in tears at his son’s namaz-e-janaza on Sunday, asking people to forgive him if he had made any mistakes and to pray for him.

“I have only one son. He grew up under your care in the environment of Cumilla. If my son has made any mistakes, please forgive him and pray for him,” said his father, KM Firoz Shahriar, in an emotional voice.

The janaza was held at the central field of Comilla University at 10am on Sunday, attended by more than a thousand people, including teachers, students, officers and employees of the university.

Family sources said Opratim’s body was scheduled to be taken to Gandhamati Eidgah field after the janaza for burial.

Comilla University Treasurer Prof Dr Mohammad Belal Uddin said Opratim was a member of the university community and called for a fair investigation into his killing.

“Opratim is our child and a member of this university. We want a fair trial for the killing of our Opratim. We have decided to install CCTV cameras along the road from the university’s main gate to Bijoy 24 Hall,” he said.

Earlier on Saturday, Opratim’s body was recovered from Lalmai Hill in Sananda Westpara at around 11am.

Opratim was the only son of Nahida Begum, an associate professor of the Bengali Department at Comilla University.
