A Dhaka court on Friday ordered four more accused to be sent to jail in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act over a cocktail explosion and alleged acts of sabotage in the capital’s Gulshan area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam passed the order following an application by the investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Md Ruhul Amin.
The accused are Sahim Uddin, 30, Tushar, 27, Sadman Sakib, 36, and Al Amin Mridha, 45. They are members of the banned Awami League and its youth wing, Jubo League.
Defence lawyer Md Riaz Morshed Mahim sought bail for the accused, which the prosecution opposed. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail petitions and ordered that the four be sent to jail.
According to court sources, a total of 55 accused have either been placed on remand or sent to jail in the case.
According to the case statement, several hundred leaders and activists of the Awami League, whose activities have been banned, and its student wing, the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, attempted to bring out a procession from in front of Bhola Mosque in Gulshan-1 around 11:45am on 11 September.
