A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed three accused on a three-day
remand each in a case filed over the killing of Special Branch (SB)
Sub-Inspector Altaf Hossain, 58, at Amin Bazar in Savar.
Earlier, nine people, including the prime accused, were put
on remands of different durations.
The freshly remanded accused are Rakib Mia, Sabbir Ahmed and
Wasim.
Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna passed the orders
following separate petitions filed by the police, said prosecution division
Sub-Inspector Abu Bakkar Siddique.
The court also sent two other accused—Kashem Ali and Dadi Al
Fayet Jit—to jail and fixed Thursday for a hearing on the remand prayer against
them.
Earlier, investigating officer SI Md Zakir Al Ahsan of Amin
Bazar Police Camp under Savar Model Police Station produced the five accused
before the court and sought 10 days’ remand for each of them.
On 8 September, the court placed Md Alauddin, 29, Md Apon,
26, Md Jihad, 23, Imran Hossain, 25, Noor Mohammad Rudra, 24, and Md Golam
Rabbi, 22, on five-day remand each, while Billal, 34, and Delwar, 33, were
placed on three-day remand.
The court had earlier, on 7 September, placed the prime
accused, Johurul, 32, on a five-day remand in the case.
According to the case statement, on 5 September, an argument
broke out at around 7:30pm over a man parking his auto-rickshaw in front of
Abul Kalam Azad’s auto garage in Bardebi West Para, Savar.
Altaf Hossain, who went there to stop the argument, himself
came under attack by the accused. The accused, along with others, attacked him
with rods, pipes, hammers and sticks, leaving him critically injured. He took
shelter at his son Ariful Islam’s business establishment to save his life.
They also attacked Ariful and vandalised the establishment
while he was trying to save his father. The injured were later taken to Shaheed
Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Altaf Hossain dead,
while his son was admitted in critical condition.
Altaf’s wife, Mst Shuli Parvin, filed the murder case with
Savar Police Station over the matter.
