Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury has warned against using artificial intelligence while writing down verdicts to be delivered by courts.
Issues related to cases, laws and sections,
information and data and conscience of the judges cannot be justified by AI.
This is why caution must be followed while using AI in judicial decisions, the
chief justice said.
Zubayer made the remarks while attending the
inauguration ceremony of the first AI Governance Summer School at the capital’s
Asiatic Society auditorium on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, the chief justice said, “An
effective law and policy needs to be created on where AI can be used and to
what extent. AI must be used to make peoples’ lives easier and protect their
fundamental rights.”
Adding that training and efficiency are most
important besides AI infrastructure, the chief justice warned about the risks
associated with using information generated by AI without scrutiny.
