Former information minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has received new portfolio and will chair the parliamentary standing committee on planning ministry.
Swapon will carry out his new responsibility
alongside his usual duties as a political adviser for the prime minister with
the rank of a minister.
Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni placed the proposal to
entrust Swapon with the new role in the parliament on Thursday, which was later
passed by voice votes.
The position was previously held by Abdul Moyeen
Khan, the current local government, rural development and cooperatives
minister. The position fell vacant after Moyeen became the minister, which has
now been filled with Swapon’s appointment.
