Khondaker Golam Moazzem, research
director of private research organization the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD),
has advised the government to urgently form an “emergency response team” to
address the ongoing energy crisis in the country.
He said the energy crisis has now reached such a critical stage that there
is no longer enough time to move gradually toward solutions through normal
processes. The problems in the energy sector must be addressed through swift
decision-making, he added.
He made the remarks at a CPD dialogue titled “Reducing Industrial Carbon
Emissions in the RMG Sector: How Can We Move Forward?” held at BRAC Centre Inn
in the capital’s Mohakhali on Sunday morning.
Khondaker Golam Moazzem said the country is currently facing a severe energy
crisis. Every day, shortages of gas are being experienced in industrial
production, agricultural production and the residential sector. A major reason
for this is that most of the country’s energy infrastructure is gas-dependent.
In addition, there is also heavy dependence on diesel.
