Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has defended this year's SSC and equivalent examination results, saying they are "good" despite a decline in both the overall pass rate and the number of students securing GPA-5.
He made the remarks while responding to a question at a press conference following the publication of the results on Monday.
"Why are you calling it bad? The results are good," the education minister said.
He added: "You can sing freely from the heart, but you cannot give marks freely."
The overall pass rate in this year's SSC and equivalent examinations fell to 62.25 per cent, compared with 68.45 per cent last year.
The number of students achieving GPA-5 also declined, from 139,032 in 2025 to 116,676 this year.
