The
International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Sunday issued an arrest warrant against Air Force Wing Commander Saifur Rahman in the case over the enforced
disappearance of BNP leader Ilias Ali in 2012.
Earlier on
Thursday, the ICT chief prosecutor’s office filed a petition seeking the arrest
warrant, after finding evidence that Saifur was involved in the crime.
Ilias Ali
was a two-time lawmaker from Sylhet-2 constituency with BNP’s ticket. He was
also the organising secretary of BNP’s Sylhet division unit.
On 17 April
2012, Ilias Ali, along with his driver Ansar, went missing from the capital’s
Banani area. At the time, Saifur Rahman served as a squadron leader at
Bangladesh Air Force, and was deputed to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). At present, he is believed to be held under military custody.
