A Dhaka court on Saturday placed six leaders of the Awami League and its banned affiliate Bangladesh Chhatra League on three-day remand in a case filed with Gulshan Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rakibul
Hasan passed the order after a hearing in the afternoon, said defence lawyer
Farzana Yasmin Rakhi.
The remanded accused are Md Nannu Mia, 38, SM
Rezwan Habib Alif, 33, Md Mehedi Masud Chowdhury, 55, Md Aminur Rahman, 42,
Sajal Ahmed, 29, and Md Ibrahim Hossain, 33.
According to the prosecution, all of them are
leaders of Awami League and its affiliated organisations at different levels in
Jashore district.
Earlier, Gulshan Police Sub-Inspector KM
Mofizur Rahman, also the investigating officer of the case, produced the
accused before the court and sought seven days' remand for each of them.
According to the petition, the accused had
allegedly been engaged in secret planning and conspiracy for a long time to
carry out sabotage and destructive activities.
Police arrested them in the Gulshan area
while they were holding a meeting to secretly plan and conspire to carry out
sabotage and destructive activities, while others reportedly escaped.
The remand plea said interrogating the
accused is necessary to obtain important information about the alleged plans
and conspiracy, identify and arrest the absconding accomplices, and uncover the
underlying facts of the case.
