The hearing on the framing of charges has been deferred until 3 August in a graft case against former National Board of Revenue (NBR) official Matiur Rahman over allegations of amassing illicit wealth.

According to court sources, the Dhaka Divisional Special Judge's Court was scheduled to deliver its order on the indictment on Tuesday. However, the order was deferred as the presiding judge, BM Tarikul Kabir, was on leave.

On 15 December 2024, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed two cases against Matiur Rahman and his second wife on charges of amassing illegal wealth and concealing information about their assets.

The ACC approved the charge sheet against Matiur on 3 February after completing its investigation.

According to the charge sheet, he concealed assets worth Tk1.24 crore by providing false and baseless information in his wealth statement.

The charge sheet also alleged that he amassed assets worth Tk5.40 crore beyond his known sources of income by abusing his position as a public servant and through bribery and corruption.

Matiur came under public scrutiny ahead of Eid-ul-Azha 2024 after social media posts went viral claiming that his son, Mushfiqur Rahman, had purchased a sacrificial goat worth Tk15 lakh.

Matiur was arrested by the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on 14 January 2025 and has remained in jail since then.
