Prime Minister Tarique Rahman could reshuffle the present
cabinet or include new members if he thought that one or more ministers were
failing to perform, said his Adviser Zahed-ur-Rahman at a briefing in the
Secretariat on Tuesday.
Zahed said that during conversations with Prime Minister
Tarique Rahman, he felt the premier could take such decisions.
The briefing was held at the office of the Press Institute
Department at the Secretariat ahead of the 180th day of the government.
Zahed could not confirm the PM’s potential move over the
reshuffle, and only outlined his “feelings” in this regard.
He himself has learnt about the prospects from media reports, the PM’s adviser said.
He also could not hint at the potential timeline for the
reshuffle, saying if deemed necessary, it could happen “before the 180th day or
sometime afterwards.”
However, the PM prioritises people’s welfare in state
affairs, and would make changes and improvements in his current choices of
ministers if it needed for the people, Zahed said, citing his “feelings”
developed during conversations.
Tarique could also add new members to his advisory council,
Zahed noted.
Zahed asserted that the past mentality among government
figures is gone where one felt that what had been decided or done could not be
changed.
“Whatever is done must be accepted as ‘correct,’ and any
talk of changing the decision has to be avoided” – this kind of mentality is
there no more, Zahed said.
