Qualified teachers can get an opportunity to begin their teaching careers through NTRCA recruitment.
The Non-Government Teachers’ Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) is a well-known institution among those seeking teaching careers in Bangladesh’s non-government educational institutions. It is responsible for recommending the recruitment of qualified teachers to private educational institutions based on merit. Qualified teachers can get an opportunity to begin their teaching careers through NTRCA recruitment.
What is NTRCA and Why was it established?
NTRCA stands for the Non-Government Teachers’ Registration and Certification Authority. It is an autonomous body operating under the Ministry of Education.
Before its establishment in 2005, teachers for non-government educational institutions—including schools, colleges and madrasas—were recruited directly by the institutions’ managing committees or governing bodies. However, this NTRCA recruitment system was frequently criticised for irregularities and favouritism.
The NTRCA was established to make teacher recruitment more transparent, eliminate corruption and ensure that qualified and competent teachers are selected on the basis of merit. It is now the principal authority responsible for recommending teacher appointments to non-government educational institutions.
Age limit
The NTRCA enforces an upper age limit of 35 years for candidates applying to teacher registration exams and public notices in Bangladesh.
What recruitment does NTRCA conduct?
The NTRCA recommends teachers for both MPO-listed (Monthly Pay Order) and non-MPO non-government educational institutions across Bangladesh. Under the MPO system, the government pays the major portion of teachers’ salaries.
Recruitment is carried out mainly at three levels:
School Level (Secondary and Lower Secondary): Assistant Teacher (Bangla, English, Mathematics, Social Science, Physical Science and other subjects), Assistant Maulvi and Demonstrator
School Level-2 (Technical and Madrasa): Junior Maulvi, Junior Teacher, Head of Ebtedayee or Ebtedayee Qari
College Level (Higher Secondary and Undergraduate): Lecturer, Instructor in various subjects and Librarian
How does NTRCA recruitment process work?
The recruitment process is highly competitive and is completed in several stages. Previously, the NTRCA only issued registration certificates, but it now directly recommends candidates to educational institutions according to merit.
The process consists of two main stages: Teacher Registration Examination and Mass Recruitment Circular (Application and Recommendation)
Stage 1: Teacher Registration Examination
The registration process begins with the publication of a recruitment notice. The examination consists of three stages.
Preliminary Examination (100 marks): Candidates sit for a multiple-choice (MCQ) examination covering Bangla, English, General Mathematics and General Knowledge. The pass mark is generally 40%.
Written Examination (100 marks): Candidates who pass the preliminary examination appear at a written examination in their chosen subject.
Oral Examination (20 marks): Those who pass the written examination are invited to attend a viva voce.
Results and Merit List: A merit list is prepared based on candidates written and oral examination scores, after which successful candidates receive an NTRCA registration certificate.
Stage 2: Mass Recruitment Circular and Final Recommendation
Obtaining an NTRCA registration certificate does not automatically guarantee employment. Recruitment depends on the availability of vacant posts, for which the NTRCA periodically publishes mass recruitment notices.
Application: Registered candidates apply online for vacancies at their preferred educational institutions. A candidate may apply to multiple institutions.
Merit-Based Selection: Using an automated software system, candidates are provisionally matched with institutions based on their merit ranking and order of preference.
Police Verification and Final Appointment: After provisional selection, candidates complete police verification formalities. Once the verification is successfully completed, the Ministry of Education and the NTRCA issue a final recommendation. The relevant educational institution's managing committee then issues the formal appointment letter.
How many teachers does NTRCA recruit each year?
The NTRCA does not recruit a fixed number of teachers annually. Instead, recruitment depends on the number of vacancies reported by educational institutions across the country. Mass recruitment notices are issued accordingly.
The NTRCA plays a vital role in improving the quality of education in Bangladesh by ensuring a transparent and merit-based teacher recruitment system. For thousands of qualified unemployed graduates, it provides the country’s principal pathway into teaching positions at non-government educational institutions that receive government salary support.
