Leaders and activists of the Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, the BNP’s volunteer wing, staged a protest rally and human chain in Pabna on Saturday, condemning what they described as derogatory remarks made against Pabna-5 (Sadar) MP and Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal Chief Coordinator Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas.

During the demonstration, the protesters also declared the National Citizen Party (NCP) "unwelcome" in the district.

Organised by the Pabna district unit of the Swechchhasebak Dal, the procession began from Thana Road in the evening and marched through Abdul Hamid Road before ending at Shaheed Chattar, where a brief rally was held.

Among those addressing the gathering were district Swechchhasebak Dal Convener Yamin Khan, Member Secretary Kamal Sheikh Titu and Joint Convener Dipankar Sarkar Jitu.

The speakers alleged that NCP Joint Convener Sarwar Tushar had made offensive and false remarks about MP Shimul Biswas. They demanded that Tushar withdraw his remarks and issue an unconditional apology.

The protesters also announced that they considered the NCP unwelcome in Pabna district and warned that they would not allow the party to carry out political activities there.
