A two-year-old girl was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after she was allegedly sexually abused in the capital's Dakshinkhan area.
The victim's mother, a domestic worker, had left the
child asleep at home before going to work in the afternoon. When she returned
about two hours later she found her daughter bleeding, said the victim's uncle Tofazzal.
The child was rushed to a local hospital and later
transferred to DMCH in the afternoon for further medical attention.
Tofazzal said a 10-year-old boy, identified as Kiron
who lives in a neighbouring room, was seen holding the crying child. The child
reportedly managed to tell her mother that the boy had removed her pants.
At first, the mother assumed the child had urinated
after noticing her pants were wet. However, when she removed the clothing, she
found the child bleeding.
Doctors at the DMCH Gynaecology Department found
injuries to the child's genital area during a medical examination.
Confirming the incident, Inspector Md Faruk,
in-charge of the DMCH Police Outpost, said the child is currently undergoing
treatment at the hospital.
"The concerned police station has already been
informed about the incident," he said.
