The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two men, including a former local leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP), in connection with the murder of a hosiery worker in Bandar upazila of Narayanganj.

The arrestees were identified as Shoaib Rahman Soheb, 42, of Salehnagar in Bandar upazila, and Md Sumon, 38, of the Bandar Shahi Mosque area.

According to the case statement, Shoaib is the prime accused, while Sumon has been named as the 10th accused.

RAB-11 Lt Commander Naim Ul Haque confirmed the arrests in a press release issued on Saturday evening (4 July).

RAB said the two men were arrested during a special operation carried out in the Godnail area under Siddhirganj Police Station on Friday night. They were subsequently handed over to Bandar Police Station for further legal proceedings.

According to the case documents, the victim, Alamgir Hossain, was critically injured during a local mediation meeting over a financial dispute at an auto-rickshaw garage in Salehnagar on the evening of 3 October 2025. He succumbed to his injuries the following morning while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Alamgir, a hosiery worker by profession, was the son of the late Sohban Mia of the Bandar Shahi Mosque area.

Following his death, his sister, Kalpana Begum, filed a murder case with Bandar Police Station.

Meanwhile, Nirab Raihan, organising secretary of the NCP's Narayanganj district committee, said Shoaib Rahman had previously served as joint coordinator of the party's Bandar upazila unit. He added that the committee was later dissolved by the party.

Ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election, Shoaib Rahman collected a nomination form from the National Citizen Party (NCP) to contest the Narayanganj-5 constituency. However, the party ultimately did not nominate any candidate for the seat, leaving it to its alliance partner, Khelafat Majlis, as part of the coalition's seat-sharing arrangement.
