The Biman Bangladesh Airlines has resumed direct flights between
Sylhet and the UK city of Manchester.
The first flight, BG-208, is set to land at the Osmani International
Airport in Sylhet around 11:50am on Monday.
Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Afroza Khanam and
the PM’s Adviser Humaiun Kobir is expected to be present during the flight’s
arrival to greet the first batch of Bangladeshi returnees.
On 29 January, during the tenure of interim government,
Humaiun Kobir held talks with then national security adviser Khalilur Rahman in
the UK on resuming the popular flight.
On 4 February, eight days ahead of the national elections,
Humaiun Kobir said at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity that the
flight would be resumed should BNP come to power.
Now, almost four months after the elections and assuming
power, BNP is set to fulfil Humaiun’s pledge.
