“National Tea Day-2026” will be celebrated on Saturday (20 June) in Sreemangal, with the presentation of the “National Tea Award 2026” recognising outstanding contributions to the country’s tea industry.

The programme has been organised by the Bangladesh Tea Board and will be held at the Sreemangal Auditorium cum Multipurpose Hall under the theme “Improvement of tea industry, let the economy be green”, said a press release.

Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir is scheduled to inaugurate the event as the chief guest, while the session will be chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Md Ataur Rahman Khan.

According to the Bangladesh Tea Board, although National Tea Day is generally observed on 21 May, the formal celebration has been rescheduled to 20 June this year.

The programme will begin at 11am with the inauguration, followed by the screening of a documentary on the tea industry and a discussion session.

Chairman of the Bangladesh Tea Board Maj Gen Md Mesbah Uddin Ahmed will deliver the welcome address.

Moulvibazar-4 MP Md Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury will attend as a special guest, alongside stakeholders and representatives of tea workers.

A key highlight of the event will be the presentation of the National Tea Award 2026 in eight categories.

For the first time, a special award will be introduced in the “Best Bought Leaf Tea Factory” category, with trophies and certificates to be handed over by the chief guest.

A tea exhibition featuring the Bangladesh Tea Board and leading tea companies will also be held on the occasion.

Bangladesh currently has 172 tea gardens, with tea cultivation expanding into the northern plains. This year marks the sixth time the National Tea Day celebration is being held in Sreemangal, widely known as the tea capital of the country.
