The
killings of Bangladeshi nationals along the border by India’s Border Security Force
(BSF) amount to clear violations of human rights, said Home Minister Salahuddin
Ahmed at the parliament on Wednesday.
The
Bangladeshi side has consistently lodged strong protest against the killings at
every BGB-BSF top-level meeting, the minister added.
Amid the growing diplomatic and strategic pressure created by Bangladesh, the BSF has repeatedly pledge to use “non-lethal weapons” at the border, the home minister said in response to a relevant question raised by the ruling party women lawmaker Nilofar Chowdhury Moni.
In bilateral meetings, the Bangladeshi side has always protested against the killings conducted under the pretext of "self-defence," Salahuddin Ahmed said.
No bilateral
deal has yet been signed for India to financially compensate the Bangladeshi families
of border killing victims, the minister noted. However, indirect pressures have
been created on India at every stage for ensuring accountability and
compensation, Salahuddin told the parliament.
