Bangladesh on Sunday repatriated 91 Bangladeshi fishermen who had been detained in India through diplomatic efforts by the government.

The fishermen, along with four Bangladeshi fishing boats, were formally handed over by the Indian Coast Guard to the Bangladesh Coast Guard at the maritime boundary line between the two countries in the Bay of Bengal.

According to officials, Bangladesh has consistently provided assistance in repatriating its citizens stranded or detained abroad through appropriate bilateral procedures.

Several government agencies jointly worked to complete the repatriation process, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Bangladesh Coast Guard, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Ministry of Shipping, Bangladesh Police, local administration and other relevant authorities.

The fishermen were later brought back to Bangladesh following the completion of necessary formalities.
