Freight train derails: Rail communication between Khulna and northern region suspended

Three wagons of a freight train have derailed in Kotchandpur upazila of Jhenaidah, disrupting rail communication between Khulna and Rajshahi as well as the northern region of the country.

The incident occurred around 6:00am on Sunday (7 June) near Safdarpur Railway Station in Kotchandpur.

Station Master Nayan Hossain said the oil-carrying freight train was travelling from Khulna to Parbatipur when the rear three wagons derailed near Safdarpur station at around 6:00am.

Following the incident, train movement between Khulna and Rajshahi, including the northern region, came to a halt.

A rescue train has already been dispatched from Khulna. Authorities said rail services are expected to return to normal shortly after the rescue operation is completed.
