Bangladesh Betar has issued a directive requiring news presenters to follow a prescribed dress code while presenting news bulletins broadcast on Facebook Live.
The instruction was issued through an office order signed by Mosammat Tania Naznin on 4 May.
The directive has since sparked discussion and criticism on social media.
According to the office order, female news presenters are required to wear modest full-sleeved salwar-kameez with an orna, or a sari. The order also instructs presenters not to wear large decorative forehead bindis and discourages the use of an orna draped over only one shoulder.
For male presenters, the dress code requires the wearing of a full-sleeved shirt and tie.
The order states that traditional Punjabi attire may be worn during festivals and special occasions. However, T-shirts and sleeveless vests have been prohibited.
When contacted for comment, a Betar official said the guidelines were intended primarily to maintain standards of decency and professionalism among presenters.
