A union chairman in Thakurgaon has taken a humanitarian initiative to support poor and helpless families by providing cash assistance and Eid essentials in addition to government-allocated VGF rice distribution.
The initiative was carried out on Saturday morning
at the Jagannathpur union parishad premises in Sadar upazila, where VGF rice
was distributed against around 3,500 government-issued beneficiary slips.
However, many low-income and vulnerable families in
the union were left out of the official assistance list due to the limited
allocation compared to the large number of needy residents.
Considering the situation, Jagannathpur Union
Parishad Chairman Mostafizur Rahman Liton personally provided Tk500 in cash and
Eid grocery items to families who did not receive VGF slips. His humanitarian
effort has been widely praised across the union.
Mostafizur said Jagannathpur is one of the country’s
largest unions, with nearly 38,000 voters, but the area received only about
3,500 VGF slips. He noted that the number of poor and helpless people in the
union is much higher than the allocated assistance.
He said the initiative was intended to help those
who genuinely deserved support but were excluded from the government list.
The chairman also said standing beside people in
difficult times is part of his responsibility as a public representative and
pledged to continue such humanitarian activities in the future.
