State Minister for Shipping and Bridges Md Razib Ahsan has ordered the immediate transfer of 16 officials and employees after finding irregularities during surprise inspections at ministry offices and affiliated agencies.

The Ministry of Shipping disclosed the information in a press release issued on Friday, stating that the officials were “stand released” over allegations of absenteeism and arriving late to office.

According to the statement, the state minister recently conducted unannounced inspections at various offices and agencies under the Ministry of Shipping in Barishal and Dhaka.

During the visits, several officials and employees were found absent from their workplaces without prior approval, while many others were seen arriving after official working hours had begun.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the matter, the state minister directed authorities to take administrative action against those accused of negligence and violating office discipline.

Following his directive, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) transferred a total of 13 officials and employees from its Barishal office. Among them, nine were from the dredging division, two from the river conservancy and operations division, one from the port and transport division, and one from the accounts division.

In addition, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) also transferred three officials and employees immediately.

The state minister instructed all officials and employees concerned to attend office on time and perform their duties with sincerity and responsibility.

He also said that similar surprise inspections would continue in the future to ensure discipline, accountability and improved service standards in government offices.
